This newly amalgamated super-sized government department used a comprehensive current state data management assessment to build benefit realisation into their new enterprise-wide data strategy.
This State Government Department was in the midst of a significant digital transformation, triggered by large-scale government changes resulting in the formation of a newly amalgamated super department. A key challenge from a technology standpoint, was to define an enterprise Data Strategy, across what were once separate organisations with their own IT. We were engaged to undertake a comprehensive data management and data governance review across the whole organisation. The review was designed to provide the background information needed to inform the enterprise data strategy development.
The assessment was undertaken via a series of interviews and workshops, as well as a review of relevant documentation. Some focus areas of the assessment included:
We delivered a comprehensive current state assessment, including a view of the data landscape across key organisational groups, whole of Government data standards compliance, master and metadata management, data quality management, and organisation culture. The assessment articulated the key capability gaps and made recommendations for their alignment. The Department incorporated the majority of these recommendations in their Data Strategy.
We were subsequently re-engaged by the Department to ensure the integration of a major SaaS solution was undertaken in a manner consistent with the long term objectives of the Data Strategy.
