IMS was engaged to audit the existing data warehouse and reporting environment to identify the opportunities to turn around an environment that was not delivering anywhere near to expectations.

While numerous technical recommendations were identified, the principal findings focussed on the establishment of a business governance framework for the data warehouse, as well as the operating procedures for the new platform.

The new governance framework defined a new organisational structure and an associated charter, designed to meet the following 3 objectives:

1. Maintain the solutions alignment with strategic objectives;

2. Improve data quality; and

3. Encourage fact-based decision-making across the organisation.

The new business governance structure complements the organisation’s existing governance structures, suits the current IM maturity level, and is sustainable within the organisation’s current resources.

The operational and business governance frameworks now provide the basis of the governance structure for the corporate data warehouse.
